3 Things To Know About Hair Extensions

Nora Harvey

If you want longer hair but don't want to wait for yours to grow or are unable to grow it out longer, hair extensions may be your best bet. Hair extensions are lengths of hair attached to your natural hair to add length, volume, or both. There's a lot of variety when it comes to hair extensions, and they come in multiple lengths and colors. If you think hair extensions are right for you, here are three things to know.

Synthetic Versus Human Hair

The first thing to know about hair extensions is that they can be made of either synthetic or natural hair. Extensions that use natural hair tend to be pricier, but they can handle heat styling and blend seamlessly with your hair. In addition, you can dye natural hair extensions to match your current color. Synthetic hair extensions are less expensive, but they don't take heat styling as well and may even melt. However, synthetic extensions are resistant to humidity.

How They Can Be Attached

There are many methods for attaching hair extensions, including clips, glue, taping, tying, or sewing. Clipped-in hair extensions are not permanent; you can clip them in and take them out on your own. Other methods of attaching extensions require a visit to the salon. For example, hand-tied hair extensions require a stylist since the wefts of hair are hand-tied in place with nylon or cotton thread. Tape-in, glued-in, and sewn-in hair extensions also require the services of a professional stylist. If you aren't sure which method will work best for your hair, your stylist can help you choose.

How Much They Cost

What you pay for hair extensions depends on whether they are made of synthetic or natural hair, their length, and how they are attached. Hair extensions can be expensive, especially when you are getting them professionally installed at a salon. There are also maintenance costs to consider. Depending on extensions, you may have to get them washed, styled, or tightened, removed, and reattached. The average cost of hair extensions is $200 to $600, but prices vary.

There are a few things you should know about hair extensions. First, you will want to decide between synthetic and natural hair for the extensions. Second, there are different ways to attach extensions, and some require a trip to the salon. Finally, what you pay for extensions depends on their quality, length, and how they are attached.

About Me
pregnancy and hair health

Before my last pregnancy, I had long, beautiful, thick hair. About a month before the baby was due, I noticed that my hair wasn't as full and gorgeous as it once was. I tried changing products and even used the conditioning treatment that I read about. I talked with my hair stylist and learned why this happened and what I could do to improve the overall health of my hair. My blog will show you how to keep your hair looking great before, during and after your pregnancy so that you can avoid the anxiety that I experienced through this situation.
